On Thursday, May 4th, Swan Hellenic announced that the official naming ceremony of its 3rd ice-class expedition ship SH Diana had taken place in Amsterdam (Netherlands).
The newbuild was named by Valerie Ann Wilson (Founder & CEO of Valerie Wilson Travel) in the presence of Swan Hellenic's senior management, Dutch dignitaries, VIP guests, media, and representatives of the cruise and travel industries.
The christening event also marked the official launch of Maris - Swan Hellenic's partnership with JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs - offering cruise tourists a unique culinary experience. The partnership was introduced by Andrea Zito (Swan Hellenic's CEO) and speeches were given by JRE CEO Hans Van Manen and JRE Italy Vice President Daniel Canzian. Five JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs chefs showcased Maris gastronomy at the event.
The vessel SH Diana has a highest ice-class hull and is specifically designed for premium discovery experiences worldwide. It is equipped with a 4.6-MW diesel-electric propulsion system and fitted with extra-large stabilizers for superior comfort at sea.
The vessel has LOA length 125 m (410 ft), volume 12100 GT-tons, and endurance/self-sufficient capacity for 40 days or 8000 nautical miles (9200 mi / 14800 km). It is also designed to operate silently in ports, marine reserves, and other sensitive natural areas, as preparations have been made to implement zero-emission battery technology.
Diana has 9 floors and 96 staterooms, the vast majority of which are with large balconies. The ship's max passenger capacity is 192 (all berths) plus 141 crew.
