Against the dramatic backdrop of Valetta Malta, Oceania Cruises celebrated the launch of its 1,200-guest Vista, its first new ship in a decade on May 8th.
Christened by Celebrity Chef/godmother Giada De Laurentiis, Oceania Vista is the first of the new Allura Class for the company.
Giada said she was honored to have been chosen as godmother of that incredible new ship and be a part of the glorious night in Malta.
Frank Del Rio Jr (Oceania'schief sales and marketing officer and the son of Frank A. Del Rio/the company's President) commented they had been eagerly awaiting that historic day as they christened their first new ship in 10+ years and paved the way for an exciting future.
"The world-class experience of this beautiful ceremony perfectly aligns with Vista’s impeccable onboard experience, which features a stunning design, exceptional entertainment, top-notch service and innovative culinary delights."
As well as witnessing the christening ceremony, guests were treated to the opening performance of Vista’s dance-centric theatrical show ‘Into the Night,’ led by Dancing with the Stars and an exclusive 60-minute set by Harry Connick Jr (1967-born jazz pianist and singer).
The evening ended with celebratory fireworks over Valletta Harbour.
After the current 7-night "VIP christening voyage" (roundtrip from Civitavecchia-Rome visiting Naples) follows Vista's maiden voyage (May 13th) from Civitavecchia to Venice Italy and the summer Mediterranean season.
In September, Vista is due to sail to Canada and New England USA, prior to heading south for a series of winter itineraries in Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean from homeport Miami Florida.
