Stena Line has acquired the ferry and RoRo operations in Port Ventspils, Latvia. The acquisition is part of Stena's plan to expand its presence in the growing Baltic Sea region. The shipping company operates the route Ventspils-Nynashamn Sweden since 2012. With this acquisition, Stena will be in a position to expand its operations in the future, taking advantage of Latvia's growing importance as a maritime nation with increasing trade volumes.
Stena Line has responded to growing customer demand on the route connecting Latvia and Sweden by increasing its capacity with two cruiseferries - Stena Baltica and Stena Scandica. The company also added more capacity to the route Liepaja Latvia - Travemunde Germany in 2021 and 2022 by introducing Stena Livia and Stena Flavia, shortening the crossing time substantially.
In addition, Stena opened a new route between Sweden, and Finland (Nynashamn-Hanko) in February 2022.

The acquisition will allow Stena Line to have direct ownership of the operations in Ventspils, giving the company greater control over future expansion opportunities. The Norvik Port in Nynashamn has also expanded recently, adding critical capacity and infrastructure that supports Stena Line's operations to both Latvia and Finland.
The acquisition is subject to approval for competition compliance, and the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
