RCI-Royal Caribbean International's most-anticipated ship ever - Icon of the Seas, is in excellent condition. On June 22nd, 2023, this brand-new liner achieved an important milestone in her construction process by successfully completing the initial round of sea trials and embarking on her first voyage across the open ocean.
After undergoing 4 days of preliminary tests to evaluate her latest technologies and equipment, the Icon returned to the Meyer Turku shipyard, where she is being built. During the trials, the hundreds of workers on board meticulously inspected and tested various technical aspects, including the main engines, hull, brake system, steering, as well as noise and vibration levels, ensuring that all essential criteria were met.
This significant step in bringing Icon OTS to life involved the efforts of 2000+ specialists, covering hundreds of miles and requiring the assistance of four tugboats weighing between 37 and 67 tons. In total, 350+ hours of work were dedicated to this endeavor. The next phase will involve a second round of sea trials later this year, during which the first Icon Class ship will be pushed to her limits before the official debut in PortMiami Florida in January 2024.
As a groundbreaking vacation experience, the 19-floor Icon OTS has 2805 passenger accommodations and combines the best aspects of various types of vacations. She marks the beginning of a new era in the travel industry, allowing families and adventurers alike to create lasting memories on their own terms. With a wide range of offerings, including record-breaking thrills, relaxing retreats, a family-friendly neighborhood, 40+ dining and entertainment options, and more, the Icon promises an unparalleled experience.
Operating from PortMiami throughout the year, the Icon will offer 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises. Passengers will have the opportunity to visit multiple destinations, such as Royal Caribbean's renowned private island destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas, as well as Cozumel, Mexico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and Roatan, Honduras.
