On Saturday, June 24th, a 57-year-old woman aboard the CCL's cruise ship Carnival Radiance was medically evacuated by a USCG helicopter aircrew.
The incident occurred ~35 mi (~56 km) southwest of Point Loma. The crew members of Carnival Radiance contacted the watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center at ~4:30 pm, seeking assistance for a passenger who was showing symptoms of a stroke.
In response, the watchstanders deployed a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, accompanied by a paramedic from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Special Tactics and Rescue (STAR) Team, to provide aid.
Upon arrival, the helicopter crew deployed a rescue swimmer who safely retrieved the patient, after which she was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.
It was reported that the patient's condition was stable.
