According to the US Coast Guard, it appears that a 30-year-old man jumped overboard from Carnival Elation off the coast of Florida during the weekend.
The accident occurred while the ship was returning to JAXPORT-Jacksonville Florida from a 4-day sailing to the Bahamas on Sunday, July 23rd. The cruise workers were alerted about the missing man, and the USCG initiated an active search, as the ship was ~95 nautical miles (176 km/110 mi) east of Melbourne FL when the man went overboard.
The Carnival Cruise Line was informed of the man's disappearance late Sunday afternoon by a fellow guest who was traveling with him and hadn't seen him all day. Despite conducting an onboard search, the crew couldn't locate him. However, after reviewing the ship's surveillance video, Carnival confirmed that he had indeed jumped overboard.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the Elation ship was allowed to continue her journey to Jacksonville, where she arrived on Monday morning, July 24th. Additionally, authorities along the shore were also informed about the situation.
