Dick de Graaff (CPA/Cruise Port Amsterdam's Director) clarifies that despite certain news reports, CPA is operating normally, and cruise ships are still arriving as scheduled.
However, on July 20th, the coalition parties of Amsterdam city council proposed a ban on ocean-going cruise vessels docking at the current location in the city center, where CPA is situated.
The council has made this appeal to the College of Mayor and Aldermen, and they are currently awaiting a response from the authorities.
Dick de Graaff said there was no policy proposal yet nor had there been mention of any timeline.
"Cruise Port Amsterdam has taken note of this statement and awaits further information. We believe this may involve investigating a new location. When the response will come, we do not know at this moment.”
Several weeks ago, the city council approved the installation of onshore power at the terminal, which is expected to be completed by 2025. After the installation, the terminal will be equipped with one connection for sea cruise ships and eight connections for river cruise ships.
As of now, CPA has confirmed bookings for cruise ships up to and including the year 2026.
