Adora Magic City, China's first large cruise ship built domestically, successfully completed the inaugural sea trial and has now returned to homeport Shanghai.
This achievement was reported by the China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) - the world's largest shipbuilder.
The sea trial took place on July 17th and saw the massive vessel depart from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, a CSSC subsidiary responsible for the construction. Over the course of 8 days, engineers conducted 60+ function tests to thoroughly evaluate the ship's power, propulsion, and control systems. Additionally, the CSSC ensured that the ship's amenities provided convenience and comfort to her passengers.
With the sea trial's success, the ship will now undergo further refinement of its equipment and interior decor. The second sea trial is scheduled to occur before October. If all goes as planned, the "floating luxury hotel" will be delivered to its buyer by the end of this year. Chen Gang, the general manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and chief designer of the cruise ship, expressed confidence in meeting this deadline.
Adora Magic City is a symbolic vessel for China's cruise shipbuilding. The collaboration between CSSC, Carnival Corporation and Fincantieri Italy began in November 2018 to design and build two 135,500 GT-ton VISTA-class units.
Construction of the Adora Magic City began in October 2019, with her sistership's construction starting in August 2022.
