ACL-American Cruise Lines introduced its newest ship - Coastal Cat American Eagle (catamaran-design vessel). The inaugural voyage was marked by a christening event at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy campus (Buzzards Bay MA). Distinguished guests, including cruise industry executives, Maritime Academy captains, and local dignitaries, gathered to witness the special occasion.
Carol Robertson (the wife of ACL's late founder Charles A. Robertson) served as the ship's godmother. The new American Eagle is named as a tribute to the company's first-ever ship, launched by the Robertsons in the 1970s.
During the naming event, Carol Robertson christened the 100-passenger American Eagle using a specially prepared champagne bottle. The ceremony was also attended by Charles B. Robertson (ACL's current President and CEO), Congressman Bill Keating, Massachusetts Maritime Academy representatives, local officials, and members of the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce.
Charles B. Robertson emphasized the significance of the new American Eagle, stating that she represents the ACL's commitment to building innovative small ships for American rivers and coasts. He highlighted that the American Eagle and her sisterships will transform the possibilities for exceptional small-ship adventures in the U.S.
The maiden voyage followed the company's popular 8-Day Cape Codder itinerary, starting and ending in Boston MA. The ship visited various destinations, including Gloucester MA; Mass Maritime Academy MA; Martha’s Vineyard MA; Newport, RI; Provincetown, MA, and Plymouth, MA. This voyage also marked American Cruise Lines' first visit to Plymouth, MA as part of her regular itinerary.
For the rest of the 2023 season, the American Eagle will continue to operate along the Cape Codder route. Additionally, the ship will offer Maine Coast & Harbors cruises from Portland, ME and Historic South & Golden Isles cruises operating between Charleston SC, and Amelia Island FL. The American Eagle is set to redefine the small-ship cruise experience in the U.S., contributing significantly to ACL's offerings.
