HAL-Holland America Line is making substantial progress in its endeavor to equip its fleet of 11 ships with SpaceX's Starlink internet technology, with more than half of the vessels now successfully updated. The first ship to receive this cutting-edge technology was ms Koningsdam, and it has since been extended to include Oosterdam, Volendam, Westerdam, Zaandam, and Zuiderdam.
Starlink stands at the forefront of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, offering high-speed internet connectivity globally. Since the implementation of Starlink internet on these ships, they have undertaken journeys through regions such as Alaska, the Mediterranean, and Canada, receiving positive feedback from both passengers and crew members regarding the Wi-Fi's performance.
Kathleen Erickson, the Vice President of Technology for Holland America Line, emphasized the cruise line's commitment to ensuring all guests remain connected during their voyages, enabling them to share their memorable experiences and facilitating team members' communication with their loved ones at home. Staying current with advancing technology is essential to delivering the best possible experience for everyone on board.
The introduction of Starlink to Holland America Line's fleet guarantees faster internet access for passengers and crew members, regardless of weather conditions or geographic locations. This upgrade simplifies global connectivity, making it easier for individuals to stay in touch with friends and family worldwide, and it also supports professional communications for guests who must balance work responsibilities while enjoying their cruise.
Holland America Line has outlined plans to complete the installation of Starlink internet on the remaining five ships in its fleet by mid-December 2023.
