Chinese outbound cruisetours are experiencing strong demand and significant growth potential, according to Brendan Tansey (Viking Cruises China's Managing Director). In a recent written interview, Tansey expressed optimism about the Chinese market and outlined plans to expand investments there.
Earlier this year, Viking made history by becoming the first cruise company to resume European river cruise operations for Chinese tourists. The "Rhine Charm Journey" route embarked on its maiden voyage on June 1. Many of the company's cruises scheduled for this year, including those during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, are fully booked or nearing full capacity. There is also robust demand for Danube River cruises among Chinese tourists.
Looking ahead, Viking intends to invest in two new river cruisers for the Chinese market in the coming year, bringing the total to four vessels serving this market segment. Additionally, Viking plans to introduce European ocean cruise projects tailored specifically for Chinese consumers, expanding its offerings to regions such as the Mediterranean.
Tansey emphasized that the company has ambitious investment plans for the Chinese market, positioning its continued growth in China as one of its most important strategic objectives. As the Chinese outbound travel market continues to expand, Chinese consumers are increasingly seeking high-quality travel experiences, presenting opportunities for the development of premium travel products for this segment.
