The Japanese shipping corporation Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd (MOL) has entered the cruise industry by introducing its new brand - "MITSUI OCEAN CRUISES" and unveiling the name "MITSUI OCEAN FUJI" for the 2023-acquired Seabourn Odyssey.
This ship is scheduled for her inaugural voyage in December 2024 (out of Yokohama), joining MOL Cruises' growing fleet, with the goal of providing passengers with a unique vacation travel experience that blends the Japanese tradition of "Omotenashi" with Western luxury. The all-suite luxury cruiser was acquired from Seabourn in March 2023 and is set to embark on an Around the World Cruise in April 2025.
The addition of cruise operations aligns with MOL Group's "BLUE ACTION 2035" management plan, which seeks to diversify its portfolio as a hedge against the volatility of the commercial shipping sector. The cruise sector's stability and profitability make it a central focus in MOL's diversification strategy, allowing them to target a wider customer base and strengthen their position in the global cruise market while contributing to the broader tourism industry.
