Colombia is set to unveil a promising cruise season that will conclude in June 2024, emphasizing the exploration of emerging destinations within the Colombian territory. This season will feature cruise ship calls at iconic cities, including Cartagena, Santa Marta, and Buenaventura.
The cruise shipping industry plays a pivotal role in bolstering the country's tourism sector, contributing significantly to the nation's emergence as a favored global destination. Moreover, the economic significance of this tourism sector is substantial, with an economic impact of nearly US$50 million, underscoring its vital role in the national economy. Hence, it is imperative that the upcoming cruise season highlights these iconic Colombian destinations.
According to information provided by port authorities and the cruise industry, Colombia is poised to welcome a total of 220 cruise ship calls from at least 30 cruise lines representing countries such as the USA, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, and Monaco. This influx of calls is expected to bring an estimated 334,000 passengers to the country throughout the season, which extends until June 2024.
Prominent cruise line brands, including RCI-Royal Caribbean International, Princess, NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line, HAL-Holland America Line, Celebrity, MSC, and AIDA, will be among the contributors to this season.
Simultaneously, collaborative efforts are underway with local communities and authorities in Cabo de la Vela to establish a plan for receiving four ship calls during 2024-H1. These arrivals will be hosted by brands such as Emerald Cruises, Hurtigruten Expeditions, and Noble Caledonia.
As previously noted, the itineraries of these cruise ships will delve into the allure of renowned destinations such as Cartagena, Santa Marta, and Buenaventura, signifying a significant stride forward for Colombian tourism. Additionally, Buenaventura, a prominent port in the Colombian Pacific, will proudly welcome its inaugural expedition cruise ship from Plantours/fleet in November 2023.
