Strong winds sweeping across Auckland Harbor have hindered the docking of a Princess Cruises' ship in the port city.
Majestic Princess, having departed from the American Samoa's capital Pago Pago, has remained anchored off Rangitoto Island since 6 AM on Monday, October 30. The 3500-passenger ship was unable to securely berth due to the adverse weather conditions.
Additionally, the wind led to the cancellation of ferry services connecting downtown Auckland and Pine Harbour on Monday morning.
Julie Wagener, spokesperson for Ports of Auckland, assured that the cruise ship was in a safe position, and they are continuously monitoring the weather for any changes. She emphasized they were definitely keeping an eye on things, and would only bring the ship in once it was safe to do so.
It's anticipated that the ship will eventually be able to dock later on Monday, according to Wagener. Passengers shared their experiences of the windy conditions on social media, with some noting winds exceeding 60 km/h (37 mph).
