Peninsula, a prominent player in the cruise industry's transition to cleaner fuels, has successfully delivered Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to the Silver Cruises' Silver Nova ship within the RCG-Royal Caribbean Group.
This significant supply operation was conducted utilizing Peninsula's latest addition to their fleet, the Levante LNG, a 12,500 m3 LNG supply vessel. The Levante LNG, which arrived in the Mediterranean at the end of September, is now fully operational in the ports of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Western Mediterranean.
John A. Bassadone, CEO of Peninsula, remarked on this milestone, saying:
"This is our first LNG supply in Gibraltar keeping us ahead of the decarbonisation curve and marking our move into the physical space through our joint owned, and operated vessel. My thanks also go to Royal Caribbean Group for their commitment to Peninsula in further advancing a lower carbon future together."
Nacho de Miguel, Peninsula's Head of Alternative Fuels & Sustainability, further emphasized their progress, stating:
"Our LNG bunkering services in the West Med are now operational. Our latest asset is a state-of-the-art, dedicated LNG supply vessel that is providing lower carbon alternatives to the global LNG powered fleet."
This development underscores the ongoing commitment of industry stakeholders like Peninsula and Royal Caribbean Group towards sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the cruise sector.
