Atlas Ocean Voyages/AOV officially introduced the World Voyager ship into its fleet on November 10th, during a naming ceremony in Ushuaia Argentina.
The 200-passenger expedition vessel is a sibling to World Traveller and World Navigator. World Voyager is commencing an inaugural deployment for the 2023-2024 Antarctic season.
The naming ceremony, overseen by James A. Rodriguez (AOV's President and CEO) featured the christening of the ship by godmother Harpreet “Preet” Kaur Chandi (British physiotherapist and British Army Captain).
Following the ceremony, Chandi raised a toast with Rodriguez as World Voyager embarked on the maiden voyage, a 9-day “Antarctic Discovery” itinerary.
World Voyager, alongside World Traveller and World Navigator, will conduct expeditions to Antarctica on 9- to 14-night round trips from Ushuaia. The voyage includes a pre-cruise hotel stay in Buenos Aires and roundtrip charter flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. The expeditions encompass a complimentary “Cultural Immersion” tour, Zodiac experiences, landings ashore, and all-inclusive amenities onboard. Optional activities such as kayaking and camping are also available.
Certified as a Polar Category C- and Ice Class 1B vessel, World Voyager is equipped with two Rolls Royce 9000 Kw hybrid diesel/electric engines and features 3D forward-looking sonar (FLS) technology to detect underwater hazards, obstacles, and shallows. This advanced system enables the ship to navigate ice fields, harbors, and rivers, providing convenient access to city centers, exclusive yacht harbors, and seldom-visited destinations.
