Last night, November 14, a crew member went overboard from the cruise ship MSC Seascape while en route from San Juan Puerto Rico to Puerto Plata Dominicana.
The ship's PA system sounded the man-overboard signal, prompting a response from the vessel's officers.
The crew member involved is a Mauritian national employed as a Hotel Cleaner. Around 9:00 p.m., MSC Seascape initiated a slowdown, announced the MOB signal, and halted in the waters off Puerto Rico's coast.
A search and rescue operation ensued, involving USCG ships, a search and rescue helicopter, and the deployment of lifeboats from MSC Seascape.
After several hours, an announcement was made that the ship would resume the voyage, with the USCG continuing search operations.
MSC Seascape is presently on a 7-nght Eastern Caribbean Cruise, having departed from PortMiami Florida, on November 11, with scheduled calls in Nassau, San Juan, Puerto Plata, and Ocean Cay Bahamas, before returning to Miami on November 18.
