The accident involving the Viking Gymir boat has left it stranded and unable to maneuver in Miltenberg (Germany).
Following a collision with the railway bridge on Wednesday afternoon, November 15, the river cruise ship is currently stuck near the train station. The vessel was moved back a few meters after the impact.
Due to difficulties in maneuvering, the ship also knocked over a steel bollard while docking, as confirmed by the water police. A few meters away, towards Miltenberg, the pier and a ladder are bent due to the incident.
The ship displays visible damage, including long scratches in the paint and a destroyed railing. At the bow, a significant indentation is evident as a result of the collision. Damages on the upper deck are likely from the impact with the railway bridge, while scratches on the hull are probably from the docking attempt.
Passengers are confirmed to be off the ship. However, they have not been relocated to hotels in Miltenberg, Wertheim, Wurzburg, or Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Travelers visited Rothenburg on Thursday, November 16.
On Thursday morning, several technicians from the company Kadlec und Brodlin based in Duisburg arrived at the Gymir. The company specializes in ship propulsion systems, navigation equipment, and ship electronics. Additionally, Frankfurt-based company Breitenbach-Hydraulik, a specialist in hydraulic system repair and maintenance, is present at the ship, according to the company's website.
