MSC Cruises is set to enhance its private Bahamian island resort destination Ocean Cay by introducing new infrastructure and amenities. The additions include excursion centers to facilitate watersport activities and island tours, a dedicated dive and snorkel center, and additional food and beverage outlets.

A notable part of the development project is the MSC Foundation's Marine Conservation Centre. This facility will serve as a hub for biologists, coral reef experts, and students, offering interactive pavilions, a lecture hall, and coral exhibition tanks. The center aims to provide educational opportunities for guests, emphasizing the significance of the marine ecosystem and the imperative to preserve oceans.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, MSC will install a third solar farm to work towards achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions for Ocean Cay. Additionally, an advanced wastewater treatment plant will be implemented. The landscaping plan involves planting native and adaptive trees, grasses, and shrubs to diversify the island's scenery and address erosion concerns.

New accommodation buildings will be constructed to cater to the needs of the growing island staff, increasing their numbers from 150 to 280.

MSC had previously announced the temporary closure of Ocean Cay from April 7 to May 22 for necessary guest experience enhancements and to support the island's future growth plans.

Ocean Cay, transformed from an industrial sand excavation site to a marine reserve and private island destination in 2019, will play a significant role in MSC's winter 2023-2024 season. MSC will deploy 5 ships - Divina, Magnifica, Meraviglia, Seascape, and Seashore - calling at Ocean Cay during this period.
