The construction of Mein Schiff 7, underway at the Meyer Turku shipyard, reached a milestone as the vessel was launched in Finland on Friday, December 1. Over the weekend, the ship will be transported to the outfitting quay, where the assembled hull will undergo finalization over the next 6 months.
In a lighthearted event, the Meyer Turku construction dock was flooded with water, initiated by a playful competition involving TUI Cruises, shipyard management, and the project team. The basin, containing 300+ million liters of water, saw the valves opened in response to a traditional cannon shot.
Tim Meyer, CEO of Meyer Turku, emphasized the enduring partnership between Meyer Turku and TUI Cruises, highlighting the Mein Schiff series as a success story in the cruise industry. Despite Mein Schiff 7 being the final sistership in the series, Meyer emphasized that ambition remains high, with the incorporation of methanol capability, a first for Meyer Turku shipyard.
Describing Mein Schiff 7 as a significant step in their pursuit of industry leadership in environmental sustainability, Meyer underscored the commitment to the green transition.
Wybcke Meier (TUI's CEO) noted that the vessel, as a sistership to Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2, not only introduces innovations for guests but also incorporates the use of new low-emission fuels.
