Carnival Corporation, the world's largest cruise shipowner, reported a significant accomplishment with a 38% reduction in food waste per passenger compared to its 2019 baseline.

This achievement brings the company close to its interim objective of a 40% reduction in food waste per person by 2025, advancing steadily toward the ultimate target of a 50% reduction by 2030.

Surpassing the previous goal of a 30% reduction within less than a year, as outlined in the 2022 Sustainability Report, underscores the ongoing commitment to minimizing the environmental impact throughout the cruise experience.

Carnival Corporation implemented proactive measures onboard its ships, addressing various facets of food preparation and dining services to curtail unused food effectively.

The company has also made strategic investments in advanced waste management technologies, such as biodigesters, to facilitate the natural breakdown and responsible disposal of surplus food. These initiatives align with Carnival Corporation's dedication to responsible waste management practices, contributing to the overarching objective of a 2030 food waste reduction target. This goal is integral to the company's circular economy initiatives, emphasizing reduced resource consumption, minimized waste generation, increased recycling, and a diminished environmental footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.

Bill Burke (Carnival Corporation's Chief Maritime Officer) emphasized the company's commitment to delivering outstanding culinary experiences while prioritizing sustainability. He highlighted the interconnected process of managing food sustainably, reducing the environmental impact, and ensuring the exceptional guest experiences that define the cruise lines/subsidiary companies owned by Carnival Corporation.
