CMP/Copenhagen Malmo Port foresees a remarkable surge in cruise calls and guests during the off-season months from November 2023 to January 2024. Expectations are set at ~50,000 passengers and 18 ship calls in Copenhagen (Denmark) and Visby (Gotland Island Sweden). This unprecedented activity during the winter months brings positive developments for both cruise guests and the destinations involved.

The strategic efforts of all stakeholders have yielded fruitful results, with an increasing number of cruise lines/operators opting for visits to Visby and Copenhagen in late autumn and winter. This includes one-off voyages and notable winter deployments such as AIDA Cruises' ship AIDAnova making a total of 7 calls to Copenhagen, and Hapag Lloyd's ship Hanseatic Nature with 5 visits to both Copenhagen and Visby.

The consistent interest and commitment from the German market underscore the region's appeal.

The festive season is also marked by a substantial influx of cruise ships, with CMP expecting 7 Christmas calls in Copenhagen and 2 in Visby in December. Additionally, 2 vessels are anticipated to celebrate New Year's Eve in Copenhagen.

Looking at the broader picture, CMP anticipates a total of ~389 cruise calls and 940,000 passengers in Malmo, Visby, and Copenhagen for the entire year of 2023. An exciting milestone is on the horizon for 2024, as CMP aims to welcome cruise ships in Copenhagen every month of the year, solidifying its status as a year-round destination.

CMP is actively pursuing sustainability goals and aims to become one of the world's most sustainable ports. The port is on track to achieve CO2 neutrality in its operations by 2025, with a notable 57% reduction in CO2 emissions from 2020 to 2022. This reduction, equivalent to 1231 tonnes of CO2, reflects CMP's commitment to environmental stewardship. From 2025, CMP plans to offer shore power to cruise ships docking in Copenhagen, further enhancing its eco-friendly initiatives.
