Spanish ferry operator Balearia has acquired the electric-powered ferry Rusadir (2022-built as Honfleur), which has been serving the company's Malaga–Melilla route since March 2022.
This acquisition adds to Balearia's fleet of eco-efficient vessels, bringing the total number of vessels with electric propulsion technology to 11.
Rusadir, measuring 187 meters in length, has a capacity for 1,670 passengers and can accommodate up to 2,600 linear meters of cargo.
The vessel's propulsion system is entirely electric, featuring dual gas engines that enable flexibility in fuel usage, including natural gas and future renewable sources with zero CO2 emissions.
This acquisition aligns with Balearia's commitment to sustainability and decarbonization in maritime transport.
