Embarking on a new fiscal course, Lisbon City (Portugal) has implemented a EUR 2 universal tourist tax for all cruise ship passengers docking in the port, effective today, January 1.
This levy is intended to be seamlessly integrated into the overall tourist package that passengers have paid for.
While acknowledging a few lingering "technical questions," Carlos Correia (Ports Board President) affirms that, in principle, the new tariff is now operational.
Regardless of the duration of their stay in the capital, cruise ship passengers will be subject to the EUR 2 fee.
Notably, while Lisbon initiated a tourist tax for overnight stays in 2016, this marks the inaugural application of a tax specifically targeting cruise ship passengers.
