The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has confirmed that the new ferry terminal in Liverpool England UK is proceeding according to schedule and is expected to commence operations in the upcoming spring season. However, the utilization of the facilities will only commence following the completion of berth fit and mooring trials.

The Manx government-funded project, situated at Princes Half Tide Dock, has experienced delays and a doubling of costs to over GBP 70 million. Contingency plans are in place to continue using the Pier Head until the new terminal is fully operational.

The high-speed ferry Manannan is slated to initiate seasonal sailings between Douglas Harbour (Isle of Man UK) and Liverpool at the end of March, with the vessel prioritized for mooring trials. The inaugural visit of the new vessel Manxman is scheduled for November 2024.

Brian Thompson, the Managing Director, expressed the company's excitement about the potential enhancement of the passenger experience. However, he emphasized that the process of introducing a vessel to a new berth is intricate, with safety being the utmost priority.

Thompson stated:

"All being well, we are on schedule to commence operations from the new Isle of Man Government terminal in Spring 2024, but until the berth fit has taken place and we've started berth trials we won't be in a position to commit to a firm date for the first sailing."

Remaining work at the site includes the installation of quay wall fenders and a landside fuel tank.
