MSC Euribia marked a significant achievement in Cadiz/Sevilla by becoming the first cruise vessel to undergo LNG refueling/bunkering at a Spanish port.
The LNG (liquefied natural gas) supply was facilitated by marine fuel supplier Peninsula, laying the groundwork for Euribia's upcoming 13-night voyage to Hamburg Germany. The itinerary visits the Canary Islands, Morocco, Madeira, mainland Portugal, and the UK.
Constructed byFrench shipbuilder Chantiers de l'Atlantique/STX France, Euribia was delivered to MSC on May 31st, 2023, starting operations in June.
In a noteworthy development reported in September 2023, MSC disclosed that Euribia achieved an overall saving of 43 tonnes of bio-LNG fuel during the world's first net-zero greenhouse gas emissions ship cruise.
MSC has been at the forefront of LNG adoption, with its initial LNG-powered ship MSC World Europa (launched in December 2022). The third vessel in this series, MSC World America, joins the fleet in 2025.
MSC's commitment to LNG technology is underscored by a substantial investment of EUR 3 billion in three LNG-powered cruise ships.
