A tragic incident unfolded near Liverpool as a 44-year-old man, hailing from north Wales, fell from the Stena Estrid ferry during its journey from Belfast to Birkenhead.
Following the incident, lifeboat crews conducted a 3-hour search on Saturday morning. The individual was subsequently airlifted by an HM Coastguard helicopter and transported to the hospital by ambulance.
Regrettably, the man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital, as confirmed by Merseyside Police. The alarm was raised at ~08:15 GMT, prompting a coordinated rescue effort involving lifeboat crews from northern England and Wales.
Merseyside Police clarified that the man's death is not considered suspicious, and a file has been prepared for the coroner. The circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event are being handled with appropriate procedural measures.
