Brittany Ferries has recently acquired a new 'Fleet Energy and Emissions Forecast' tool, developed by Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore (BVS M&O).

The tool is designed to assist Brittany Ferries in meeting Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) requirements, while also supporting long-term planning for vessel utilization, capacity, retrofit scheduling, and voyage management across the fleet.

Focused on vessel speed and fuel consumption metrics, the web-based software uses a theoretical approach calibrated by actual performance data to model fuel consumption and emissions for each ship.

The tool allows for adjusting parameters to develop scenarios for optimizing fuel consumption, emissions, and costs across the fleet.

Brice Robinson, Manager Naval Projects Department at Brittany Ferries, emphasized the importance of forecasting for decision-making and expressed confidence in the new application's ability to model and plan energy requirements for individual ships, supporting decisions to manage greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs.
