Officials at a Bahamas resort have stated that security camera footage contradicts the accounts provided by two Kentucky women who allege they were drugged with spiked cocktails and sexually assaulted during an onshore excursion from a CCL-Carnival Cruise Line ship anchored nearby.
Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson reported being assaulted by Pirate’s Cove resort staff members in broad daylight after consuming drugged cocktails. The incident allegedly occurred during a beach excursion on a Carnival Elation voyage while the ship was in Freeport. They claim to have lost consciousness and regained awareness during the assaults by two resort employees.
A Pirate’s Cove resort's spokesperson has stated that the women’s version of events does not align with their security footage.
Shearer and Dobson, accompanied by their legal representative, have expressed frustration with local authorities, alleging inadequate administration of sexual assault test kits and feeling unjustly treated as though they were suspects when reporting the assaults.
Toxicology results revealed the presence of benzodiazepines and other substances in their systems. The women had previously shared photos showing cuts and bruises on their legs.
They also expressed disappointment at not being informed about a travel advisory for the Bahamas issued by the USA's State Department due to increased violence and assaults.
A news release published on Facebook by the Royal Bahamas Police confirms the arrest of two individuals in connection with the assaults, with the investigation ongoing.
CCL addressed the incident, stating:
“Our onboard Care Team provided support for the two guests as they sailed back to Jacksonville. Bahamian police are investigating the matter and Carnival is providing our full cooperation."
