Saudi Arabia has unveiled a procedural guide governing the temporary entry of foreign passebger vessels into its waters for a maximum duration of 6 months.
The guide is developed by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority in collaboration with the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA). It aims to clarify the processes and procedures for the temporary entry of various marine vessels including luxury superyachts) into all tourist marinas under the authority's supervision.
Under the provisions outlined in the guide, motorized cruise ships will be permitted temporary entry into Saudi Arabia. This category encompasses cruise ships, yachts, mega yachts, pleasure boats, diving boats, marine tank vessels, recreational submarines, and personal marine vessels. These vessels are granted a temporary entry period of 6 months (180 days), with the option to extend for an additional similar period.
Additionally, the guide specifies that temporary entry encompasses sailing ships categorized as catamarans (watercraft with two parallel hulls), trimarans (multihull boats comprising a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls), keelboats, and sloops/sailboats.
The SRSA has confirmed that the target demographic for temporary entry includes tourists transiting within the specified geographical area designated by the competent authority during their residence or visa period, as well as foreign-flagged vessels for any individual.
The guide streamlines temporary admission procedures, emphasizing efficiency and speed. It mandates that shipping agents must register with the authority through an electronic application on the official website, fulfill relevant requirements outlined in the shipping agents guide, and maintain accurate records of services provided to customers and intermediaries for customs and tax purposes.
Notably, the SRSA is the primary facilitator and official regulator of coastal tourism along the Red Sea. It plays a central role in launching coastal tourism initiatives in the Red Sea region, contributing to the Kingdom's tourism development while preserving its environmental elements and natural wealth.
The SRSA is dedicated to fostering a sustainable tourism economy along the Red Sea coastline, prioritizing environmental sustainability. Its responsibilities include organizing recreational activities, overseeing tours of cruise ships and yachts, and implementing mechanisms to safeguard the coastal environment.
