The construction progress of Silver Ray for Silversea Cruises has reached a notable stage at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg (Germany). Scheduled to depart from the shipyard's construction dock this Sunday, the Silver Ray, sistership to the Silver Nova, marks a significant milestone in her development.
As announced by the shipyard, the unveiling ceremony of the new vessel is set to commence around 11:30 am as it navigates out of Meyer Werft's smaller enclosed dock. Silver Ray will then be docked at the shipyard's outfitting pier. During the undocking will be also installed the LNG bunker mast and the funnel/smokestacks (by early Sunday evening).
Ahead of the Silver Ray's departure, a section of the engine room designated for the cruise ship Asuka III of NYK Cruises will be relocated from the hall, starting at 8:00 am on Sunday, to facilitate the necessary clearance. Subsequently, this unit will be repositioned back into the hall.
Residents and visitors in Papenburg can observe the Silver Ray's brief inaugural departure on Sunday morning, during which initial tests on bow thrusters and stabilizers will be conducted. Following this phase, additional interior work will be undertaken before the Silver Ray embarks on its journey over the Ems River towards the North Sea for trials.
Upon completion of nautical and technical sea trials, the vessel will be delivered to Silversea.
Silver Ray and its sistership represent pioneering vessels in the cruising industry, incorporating liquefied natural gas (LNG), a fuel cell system for the entire hotel operation, and batteries. These advancements, developed collaboratively by Meyer Werft, Freudenberg e Power Systems, and Silversea, represent cutting-edge measures to mitigate emissions.
Additionally, the utilization of a fuel cell system enables zero-emission operation of the ship in port environments.
