Power Knot Ocean, a leading provider of onsite organic waste management solutions for maritime environments, has announced the successful installation of 26 of its machines on Princess Cruises' newest ship - Sun Princess. This deployment of Power Knot's LFC biodigesters and WEP effluent pumps represents a significant advancement in sustainable waste management practices within the cruise industry.
Sun Princess has volume 175,500 GT-tons and max passenger capacity 4300 (2162 staterooms). The vessel debuted on Feb 28th (2024) with scheduled voyages in Europe/Mediterranean and the Caribbean (out of Fort Lauderdale Florida).
The LFC biodigester is specifically designed for food waste management, utilizing natural aerobic digestion to decompose food waste into water. This eco-friendly process eliminates the need for traditional disposal methods, leading to cost savings and reduced environmental impact. Strategically positioned in key areas such as the galley or garbage room, these biodigester units enhance operational efficiency by managing food waste directly at the source. Available in 9 different sizes to accommodate varying capacities ranging from 10 kg (20 lb) to 6000 kg (13200 lb) of food waste per day, the LFC biodigester offers a versatile and efficient solution for waste reduction.
Accompanying each LFC biodigester is a WEP effluent pump, which facilitates the transfer of effluent to a designated location for further processing at the onboard treatment facility. This integrated system ensures seamless waste management onboard the Sun Princess, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable maritime environment.
"The installation of our LFC biodigesters and WEP effluent pumps on the Sun Princess exemplifies our dedication to sustainable waste management solutions. By seamlessly integrating our advanced technology into the ship's operations, we are contributing to a cleaner, greener future for the cruise industry," said Iain Milnes, President of Power Knot.
