On March 6th, Copenhagen Port was honored as Europe's Leading Cruise Port for the year by the esteemed World Travel Awards during a ceremony in Berlin.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognize excellence across various sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. Copenhagen previously secured this prestigious title in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012, reaffirming its status as a premier cruise port in Europe.
Luis de Carvalho, Commercial Cruise Director of Copenhagen Malmo Port (CMP), accepted the award on behalf of Copenhagen at the Berlin event.
Copenhagen, renowned for its manageable size and diverse lifestyle offerings, is a cultural hub that seamlessly blends history with modernity. The city boasts striking architecture, a thriving gastronomy scene, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
Strategically positioned as a gateway to the Baltic Sea and the Nordics/North Atlantic region, Copenhagen offers excellent infrastructure and facilities to support cruise operations. With a well-connected international airport and flexible turnaround facilities at three acclaimed Ocean Quay cruise terminals, along with centrally located facilities at Langelinie Pier and Nordre Toldbod, Copenhagen provides a seamless experience for cruise passengers.
In 2023, Copenhagen warmly welcomed over 750,000 guests and nearly 300 cruise ships, with similar numbers anticipated for 2024. Notably, Copenhagen is set to host 50+ cruise calls between October 2024 and April 2025, a rare occurrence for the Northern Europe region. Additionally, 2024 will see 10 inaugural cruise ship calls, including notable vessels like Queen Anne, Mein Schiff 7, Ocean Albatross, and Azamara Onward.
CMP's terminals in Copenhagen cater to a wide range of cruise vessels and segments, from luxury and niche to expedition and premium, accommodating even the largest cruise ships in the world.
Demonstrating a commitment to responsible cruise tourism, Copenhagen Malmo Port aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations by 2025, aligning with plans for shore power cruise ship connections in Port Copenhagen.
