Highlighting its dedication to sustainability, Carnival Corporation & plc, the world's largest cruise company, has introduced a new solar park at its Amber Cove Cruise Center in the Dominican Republic. This solar park, featuring 1,800+ solar panels, is set to fulfill 80% of the port's energy needs.
Carnival Corporation, Carnival Cruise Line, and Amber Cove Cruise Center marked this milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by government officials, industry leaders, and members of the local community, including Joel Santos, Minister of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic, and Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line.
The transition to renewable solar energy signifies a significant reduction in the port's reliance on traditional energy sources, thus mitigating greenhouse gas emissions that would otherwise be generated. The solar park is anticipated to curtail greenhouse gas emissions by ~1,000 tons per year, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting 30,000+ trees.
Situated on the north coast of the Dominican Republic near the historic town of Puerto Plata, Amber Cove Cruise Center is one of Carnival Corporation's eight premier port destinations and private islands. Spanning 25 acres, the port offers a range of amenities including restaurants, shops, bars, pools, a zipline, waterfront and hilltop cabanas, as well as diverse shore excursion options such as snorkeling and waterfall adventures. Four of Carnival Corporation's cruise lines – Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, and Princess Cruises – regularly include Amber Cove Cruise Center in their itineraries. The port achieved a significant milestone last December by welcoming its one millionth arriving guest, contributing to over half of all cruise guest visits to the Dominican Republic in 2023.
