Marlink has implemented a comprehensive hybrid network solution for Exploris, a new French expedition cruise company, onboard the vessel Exploris One during its drydock refit in Valparaiso Chile.
The network solution integrates various connectivity options, including LEO from Eutelsat OneWeb, Starlink, and Iridium, alongside Marlink GEO VSAT, TV-RO, and 5G GSM services. This setup aims to ensure continuous coverage and connectivity for the expedition cruise ship, enabling guests to enjoy seamless digital experiences even in remote and uncharted territories.
Catering to the French-speaking leisure market, the 144-guest ship began her inaugural season in December 2023, offering 32 departures to destinations such as Antarctica, the Atlantic Islands, Western Europe, Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland, the Canadian Arctic, and South America. Given the remote and challenging nature of these locations, a hybrid network solution is essential to keep both the vessel and guests connected under varying conditions.
Marlink's technical team managed the installation of antennas, below-deck equipment, and integration with the ship's network during an extensive refit, preparing the ice-capable vessel for voyages to remote and polar regions.
Philippe Videau, President of Exploris, expressed their commitment to bringing new and captivating destinations to guests and facilitating real-time sharing of experiences with friends and family. He emphasized Marlink's alignment with their vision of delivering excellence to guests while ensuring the vessel remains safe and connected wherever it sails.
In September 2022, Marlink expanded its offerings by including SpaceX's Starlink service, a high-speed, low-latency broadband internet service facilitated by a constellation of satellites in Low Earth Orbit.
