CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's newest exclusive cruise port Grand Bahama Celebration Key will unveil a retail enclave named Lokono Cove, chosen through a community competition with input from local residents. The winning submission, Lokono Cove, was announced by Christine Duffy (CCL's President) during the Seatrade Cruise Global conference in Miami Beach.
Lokono Cove, one of the 5 segments of Celebration Key, will host various shops and kiosks alongside an authentic Bahamian artisan market, showcasing local craftsmanship. Guests can peruse locally crafted items, including souvenirs and fine jewelry while immersing themselves in Bahamian culture. Lokono Cove will also feature Bahamian music, vibrant murals painted by local artists, and opportunities to savor local snacks.
The name Lokono Cove was chosen by a selection committee, including local officials and representatives from cultural and creative industries, from submissions by Grand Bahamians. "Lokono" derives from the Lucayans, the early inhabitants of Grand Bahama known for their artistic prowess in basket-weaving, pottery, and painting.
Christine Duffy remarked that Lokono Cove will be a haven where guests can embrace the essence of The Bahamas, discovering locally-inspired treasures and experiencing the beauty and culture of the islands. Lokono Cove will also serve as a starting point for guests venturing to explore other parts of Grand Bahama.
Deidre Rahming, the submitter of the winning name, will receive a prize package, including cash, attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a day-pass to Celebration Key.
Lokono Cove joins Paradise Plaza and Calypso Lagoon as part of the 5 distinct areas on Celebration Key. Carnival Cruise Line will soon reveal details about the remaining two areas, catering to families and adults. Celebration Key is slated to welcome its inaugural guests in July 2025, with 500+ itineraries featuring visits to the new destination aboard 18 ships from 10 U.S. homeports.
