MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique achieved significant milestones on Wednesday, April 10, during the construction of the groundbreaking World-class ships, MSC World America and MSC World Asia. The events unfolded at a press conference held at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami Florida.
MSC World America reached a pivotal moment with the completion of its float out ceremony at the shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France on Sunday, April 7, 2024. This ultramodern flagship is now in its final phase of construction and is set to be officially christened on April 9, 2025, at MSC Cruises’ state-of-the-art PortMiami terminal. Following the naming ceremony, the ship will embark on a celebratory voyage to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the cruise line’s private island in The Bahamas. Notably, Ocean Cay is home to the MSC Foundation’s Super Coral Program and has been designated a 'Hope Spot' by Mission Blue.
Simultaneously, the steel-cutting ceremony marked the commencement of construction for MSC Cruises’ third World Class vessel, MSC World Asia. Slated for delivery in 2026, MSC World Asia will follow the tradition of its predecessors by paying tribute to a continent. While specific operational details are forthcoming, the ship will incorporate distinctive design elements and experiences inspired by its namesake region.
MSC World America stands as MSC Cruises’ largest ship serving the U.S. and the first in the region to utilize LNG propulsion. Tailored with North American guests in mind, it boasts unique amenities blending European sophistication with American comfort. Spanning 22 decks with 2,600+ staterooms, MSC World America promises to be a focal point of the Miami skyline upon its naming in 2025.
The World Class ships are distinguished by their striking silhouette, featuring a signature plumb bow and a stylish Y-shaped aft leading to an expansive outdoor promenade. These vessels epitomize modern urban living at sea, offering diverse experiences across 22 decks and providing extensive public spaces, including MSC Cruises’ largest Yacht Club. The exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” concept ensures unparalleled comfort, complemented by environmentally conscious features such as shore power connectivity and advanced recycling programs.
MSC World America and MSC World Asia exemplify MSC Cruises’ commitment to environmental sustainability. As the 4th LNG-powered additions to the fleet, they contribute to reducing carbon emissions and advancing maritime decarbonization efforts. Incorporating innovative technologies and operational practices, these ships pave the way for a more environmentally responsible future in the cruise industry.
