A maritime search operation has been initiated following reports of a crew member going overboard from HAL-Holland America Line's ship ms Rotterdam while navigating waters off the coast of South Florida.
On Saturday morning, April 13, at ~11:18 a.m., deputies from the Broward County Sheriff's Office Port Everglades District were alerted to the situation.
According to statements from Holland America, the crew member was noted as missing upon the ship's arrival at Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades, Florida).
Review of onboard security footage indicated that the crew member intentionally went overboard ~9:45 p.m. on Friday, April 12th, while the ship was transiting between Cuba and Key West Florida.
In response, investigative units from the Broward County Sheriff's Office, including the Homicide and Crime Scene teams, have been dispatched to Port Everglades for further inquiries. Concurrently, the U.S. Coast Guard has been notified and is actively conducting search operations at sea to locate the missing crew member.
Holland America expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the crew's family during this challenging period.
