A 29-year-old staff member in the retail department aboard Princess Cruises' latest ship, Sun Princess, was medically evacuated in Greece due to an urgent medical condition.
The ship’s officers requested a medical evacuation from the Port Authority while the vessel was docked in Souda-Chania on the island of Crete on Tuesday, May 21. The Hellenic Coast Guard successfully transported the staff member, who was then taken by ambulance to a hospital.
The Sun Princess is currently on a 7-day cruise from Civitavecchia-Rome to Piraeus-Athens, with scheduled stops in Naples, Italy; Chania, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; and Mykonos Island, Greece.
Further details regarding the staff member's identity or medical condition have not been disclosed.
The Hellenic Coast Guard released the following statement:
"In the afternoon hours today, the Central Port Authority of Chania was informed that a 29-year-old foreign crew member (specialty shop clerk) of a cruise ship with the Bermuda flag, which was docked at the port of Souda, needed immediate hospital treatment. The 29-year-old was picked up by a private ambulance and taken to a private clinic."
