An 8-year-old boy from the Netherlands was found unconscious in a swimming pool aboard Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas Thursday night.
According to CBS New York, the kid was found in the pool on the ship at around 8:00 p.m. Officials told the station that the little boy had gone at least 18 min without oxygen. WABC-TV reported he was on life-support.
The cruise ship was 10 miles offshore from Queens, NY when the boy was discovered. In a statement, Royal Caribbean said that its medical team had treated the child, but required additional attention. The vessel also altered its course and returned to Bayonne, New Jersey.
CBS New York reported that the Coast Guard, FDNY and NYPD responded to the ship. Medical equipment was loaded onboard. The kid was transported to Staten Island hospital.
Two buses met the boy's group of 49 vacationers in Bayonne and took them to a hotel.
