On June 12, ACL-American Cruise Lines announced an order for 7 new ships, set to be delivered by the end of 2026. This expansion includes 6 vessels from the Project Blue series and a new American Riverboat.
Charles B. Robertson, ACL's President & CEO, highlighted the robust state of the domestic cruise industry, noting growing demand for modern river cruises, small ships, and unique USA exploration. He attributed this demand to historically rich destinations and ships that offer top-tier onboard experiences.
Three of the new ships remain unnamed, with more details to be revealed over the summer. The upcoming American Riverboat will share similarities with the sisterships and incorporate new design features.
By 2025, the company aims to operate 21 vessels, expanding to 24 in 2026, exclusively on USA coastal and river itineraries.
All 7 new ships are being constructed in Salisbury (Maryland) by Chesapeake Shipbuilding.
