Fincantieri and Viking have formalized agreements for the construction of two new ocean vessels, following the successful design of previous ships built by Fincantieri for Viking. Scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029, the contract's value is substantial, contingent on financing and other terms.

These new ships will adhere to the latest environmental and navigational standards and will feature advanced safety systems. They will incorporate innovations from the ongoing collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, focusing on eco-friendly fuels and sustainable zero-emission power generation systems.

Designed for the small cruise ship segment, each vessel will have a gross tonnage of ~54,300 tons and accommodate 998 passengers in 499 cabins. This agreement underscores the cruise market’s robust recovery, with passenger volumes returning to pre-pandemic levels, positively impacting Fincantieri’s commercial pipeline, evidenced by other significant orders earlier this year.

The collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, which began in 2012, now includes a total of 20 vessels, including two purpose-built expedition units by Fincantieri’s subsidiary, Vard.
