Istanbul Municipality's subsidiary, City Lines, will introduce mini ferries to public service starting July 15. Initially, 3 mini ferries, dubbed sea "dolmus," will operate on the Istinye-Kucuksu and Beykoz-Sariyer routes, enhancing urban sea transportation.
A ceremony at the historic Halic Shipyard marked the milestone, attended by Ekrem Imamoglu (Istanbul's Mayor), politicians, district mayors, and City Lines General Manager Ercument Guldik.
Imamoglu stated that in this historic shipyard, revitalized as a hub for cultural, artistic, and educational activities alongside manufacturing, they are committed to sustaining Istanbul's iconic ferries. He highlighted efforts to bolster maritime transportation with new vehicles like sea taxis and mini-ferries.
These ferryboats are designed for low passenger density, promoting efficiency and resource conservation. Imamoglu noted that these vessels are environmentally friendly with low emissions.
Following the speeches, the mini-ferries "Golden Horn-1," "Golden Horn-2," and "Golden Horn-3" were ceremoniously launched.
Additionally, production of 7 more mini-ferries began at Halic Shipyard in March. These will soon join the fleet on the Istinye-Kucuksu and Beykoz-Sariyer lines.
Each ferry, made from composite materials using vacuum infusion methods, can carry up to 33 passengers.
Starting July 15th, the mini-ferries will operate under the City Lines fare tariff, marking a new era in Istanbul’s public transportation system.
