A 61-year-old Dutch passenger opted for a relaxing day by the pool instead of exploring the city or visiting Florence or Pisa. However, his peaceful day on the MSC Grandiosa ship docked in Port Livorno (Italy) on July 21st, took an unexpected turn.

While lounging by the swimming pool (midship on Deck 15), an accident with a sun lounger resulted in part of his finger being amputated. The ship's doctor quickly intervened, preserving the detached segment and controlling the bleeding. Around noon, a call to emergency services brought ambulances from Misericordia Livorno Sud Antignano.

The male tourist, after receiving initial care from the Infirmary’s staff, was transported to a hospital in Livorno in stable condition.

MSC Grandiosa's current cruise is a 7-day Western Mediterranean itinerary roundtrip from Marseille France (July 15th-22nd).
