HAL-Holland America Line has announced three itineraries for the 2026 total solar eclipse, ensuring passengers can witness this celestial event despite its invisibility from the USA.
Zuiderdam ship will embark on a 35-day Voyage of the Vikings: Solar Eclipse from Boston MA on July 18th, 2026, while Nieuw Statendam ship will offer a 28-day Scandinavian Solar Eclipse with Greenland and Scotland, departing on July 25 from either Dover England or Rotterdam Netherlands. Oosterdam ship will set sail on a 13-day Mediterranean Solar Eclipse from Lisbon Portugal to Piraeus-Athens Greece on August 9th, 2026.
The Voyage of the Vikings will traverse New England, Canada, and Europe, featuring stops in Greenland, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Iceland, with eclipse viewing off Iceland’s western coast. The Scandinavian Solar Eclipse cruise includes ports in Norway, Iceland, and more, with eclipse viewing from Iceland’s northwest coast and an overnight in South Queensferry near Edinburgh, Scotland. The Mediterranean Solar Eclipse itinerary covers Spain, France, Italy, and Montenegro, with eclipse viewing off the Spanish coast between Barcelona and Alicante, Spain, and an overnight in Barcelona.
All eclipse cruises will feature scientific specialists, lectures, themed activities, and provide eclipse glasses for safe viewing. As part of its Celestial Cruises, HAL will also offer Northern Lights sailings and a summer solstice celebration above the Arctic Circle. Bookings open on July 31st, with special onboard credits available for Mariner Society members booking by October 29th, 2026.
