CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has initiated a large-scale recruitment drive to hire thousands of new crew members for its expanding fleet, which includes 3 new cruise ships. In an effort to enhance its workforce, the company is offering scholarships to Filipinos interested in joining their team. The scholarships and expanded curriculum at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) are expected to significantly improve career prospects for Filipino seafarers.
CCL has strengthened its partnerships with two universities in the Philippines, historically key sources of sailors for the company. Christine Duffy (CCL's President) emphasized this collaboration, stating they are expanding their work with PMMA to create greater opportunities for Filipino employees. Historically, many have started in entry-level positions. Now, CCL is offering them an expanded curriculum.
Currently, ~12,000 Filipino crew work for CCL, with ~50,000 employed across Carnival Corporation's 8 subsidiaries/brands. This initiative aims to enhance the careers of Filipino employees by offering better training and development opportunities.
CCL also announced the addition of 3 new ships, each capable of carrying up to 8,000 passengers. Duffy outlined the timeline for these new additions, stating that in January 2025, they will add 2 more ships. Then, in 2027, 2028, 2029, 2031, and 2033, they will have another ship.
