RCG-Royal Caribbean Group has formalized an agreement with Finnish shipbuilder Meyer Turku for the construction of a 4th Icon Class vessel, slated for delivery in 2027.
The contract also includes options for 2 additional ships in the same class. Jason Liberty, CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, emphasized the success of the Icon of the Seas, which entered service in January 2024, and expressed enthusiasm for further fleet expansion. The new vessels are expected to enhance the innovative features introduced by the Icon Class, with the next ship, Star of the Seas, scheduled to launch in 2025.
This deal reinforces Royal Caribbean’s longstanding collaboration with Meyer Turku, which has constructed 21 ships for the company over the past 28 years. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo welcomed the agreement, citing its favorable impact on Finland’s economy and job market.
Royal Caribbean's newbuild portfolio now comprises 7 ships, with additional options for future growth.
Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group said:
"Building on the incredible momentum and market response to the launch of Icon of the Seas and the excitement for its sister ship, Star of the Seas, coming in 2025, we're thrilled to join with Meyer Turku once again to expand our roster of Icon Class ships and continue our future growth plans.
"Since its debut, Icon has changed the game in vacation experiences and exceeded our expectations in both guest satisfaction and financial performance," he added.
