37 passengers were safely evacuated from a New York City ferry after a fire broke out on board.
The fire occurred around 4:37 p.m. local time on Tuesday, August 27th, in the engine room of the ferry Father Mychal Judge (MMSI 366834160) while it was en route from Manhattan to Jersey City along the Hudson River, according to New York Waterway spokesperson Adam Pockriss.
First responders swiftly transferred the passengers to another New York Waterway vessel, the Frank Sinatra, with no injuries reported.
The fire was extinguished within 3 to 4 minutes, and the ferry was later towed to a work dock for repairs.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
