The US Coast Guard successfully conducted a medical evacuation of a 26-year-old female crew from the RCI-Royal Caribbean's ship Navigator of the Seas, located ~30 mi/50 km west of San Diego CA, early Thursday last week (August 29th).
Coast Guard Sector San Diego received an alert from the cruise ship at 12:10 AM, reporting that the woman was experiencing severe lower abdominal pain. In response, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from CG Air Station San Diego was dispatched to the scene.
The aircrew arrived, hoisted the woman and flew her to the CG Air Station San Diego, where emergency medical services were waiting. She was then transferred to Hillcrest Medical Center at the University of California, San Diego, and was last reported in stable condition.
A statement by CG Sector San Diego reads:
"The Coast Guard medevaced a 26-year-old woman Thursday off the Navigator of the Seas cruise ship approximately 30 miles west of San Diego. Watchstanders received a report from the cruise ship at 12:10 a.m. of a 26-year-old woman with lower abdominal pain. Watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to conduct the medevac. The aircrew arrived on-scene, hoisted the woman aboard the helicopter, and transported her to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Coast Guard Air Station San Diego."
