As cruise ship traffic in downtown Juneau increases, network congestion has become a growing concern. In response, the Royal Caribbean Group and Alaska Native Corporation Goldbelt have partnered to introduce Starlink satellite internet to Alaska's capital Juneau.
Goldbelt President and CEO McHugh Pierre highlighted that the primary complaint during the summer season was the slowdown of internet speeds on busy days.
Preston Carnahan, Royal Caribbean's Associate Vice President for West Coast Destination Development, detailed the collaboration’s efforts to address this issue.
Installation has already begun, extending from the Goldbelt Tram Lower Terminal to the northern part of Franklin Street, with full connectivity expected in the coming weeks.
Visitors and locals will be able to access this enhanced service via participating businesses in the downtown area.
